About IRS

About the IRS

The Illinois Radiological Society (IRS) is a Chapter of the American College of Radiology (ACR). Membership includes radiologists, radiation oncologists, medical physicists, interventional radiologists and nuclear medicine physicians.

The IRS is comprised of two divisions: the Chicago Radiological Society (CRS), covering Chicago and its suburbs, and the Central Illinois Radiological Society (CIRS) covering the balance of the state. The State is divided about two thirds in the CRS and one third in the CIRS. Leadership is divided along the same lines.

Mission

Like the ACR, the mission of the IRS is to serve patients and society by maximizing the value of radiology, radiation oncology, interventional radiology, nuclear medicine and medical physics by advancing the science of radiology, improving the quality of patient care, positively influencing the socio-economics of the practice of radiology, providing continuing education for radiology and allied health professions and conducting research for the future of radiology.
